FIG. 02.1Engine Diagnostics
Find the cause before replacing parts.
A check engine light, a rough idle or a problem that comes and goes: a diagnostic evaluation tests the systems involved, so the repair goes after the real problem.

Diagnostic evaluation
$180
The evaluation covers the time to test your vehicle and find the cause. If you go ahead with a qualifying repair, part of the diagnostic fee may be credited toward it. We’ll tell you how much applies when we go over your estimate.
What the evaluation is, and isn't
- Jose confirms the symptom and checks the systems involved.
- He tests the likely causes instead of guessing with parts.
- You get the findings and your options in plain language.
- It doesn’t include the repair itself: you approve an estimate first.
No one can promise an exact diagnosis before seeing the vehicle; some intermittent problems take more than one visit to catch.

FIG. 02.1.3Good to Know
Good to know before you book.
General notes, not a diagnosis. For your vehicle, start the Pre-Diagnostic Check.
Why a check engine light can have many causes
The light comes on when the engine computer sees a reading outside its normal range. The same light can point to a loose fuel cap, a failing sensor, a misfire, a vacuum leak or an emissions fault. A trouble code narrows the search, but it names the system that reported the problem, not always the part that failed. That’s why testing comes before replacing parts. A flashing light is treated as urgent: stop driving when it’s safe and have it checked.
What a diagnostic appointment involves
A technician confirms the symptom, checks stored trouble codes and live data where the vehicle supports it, and tests the parts and wiring involved, so the repair targets the cause. At Ipatzi the diagnostic evaluation is $180. If you go ahead with a qualifying repair, part of that fee may be credited toward it; we’ll confirm how much with your estimate.
How to describe a noise
Note what it sounds like (knock, tick, squeal, grind, hiss or rattle), when it happens (cold start, accelerating, braking, turning or idling) and where it seems to come from. A short video with sound lets the technician hear what you hear. A knock together with an oil pressure or temperature warning means stop the engine right away.

Common questions.
How much does a diagnostic appointment cost?
The diagnostic evaluation is $180. It covers the time to test your vehicle and find the cause of the problem. If you go ahead with a qualifying repair, part of the diagnostic fee may be credited toward it. We’ll tell you how much applies when we go over your estimate.
What happens during a diagnostic appointment?
Jose confirms the symptom, checks the systems involved and tests the likely causes, so the repair goes after the real problem instead of guessing with parts. Then he explains what he found and your options in plain language, in English or Spanish.
Will I know the cost before the repair starts?
Yes. After the diagnosis you get an estimate for the repair, and no repair work starts until you approve it.
Is the Pre-Diagnostic Check a diagnosis?
No. It’s general guidance that helps you describe the problem and choose the right service. Only an inspection by a qualified technician can find the cause. If something feels unsafe, stop driving and call.
